Measles has been in local and national news a lot this year due to record numbers of infection and a local outbreak. Our own blog has had a couple posts about it already (here and here). You’ve heard about it before: it’s a dangerous, highly-communicable disease that is easily preventable with vaccination.
But did you know that when someone contracts measles, it also erases that person’s immunity to ALL diseases? It’s like hitting the reset button on your immune system, or having your white blood cells get amnesia, and the only way to get immunity back is to either get vaccinated or contract the illnesses all over again.
The Vaccine Mom has a great blog post where she explains this phenomenon far better than we could. Check it out!
